"“My dream is to continue the legacy Walt left behind by enriching players' lives through the great game of soccer. I would not be the coach I am today with my current aspirations if it wasn't for the support of the WCMF.”"
--Samantha Bird, 2007 WCMF Scholarship Recipient
History & Application Process
Walt Chyzowych served US Soccer as Director of Coaching providing leadership to the development of US
Soccer Coaching Schools and as a consultant to the National Soccer Coaching Association of America (NSCAA)
in the formation of its Coaching Academy programs.
As part of its continuing effort to provide assistance to aspiring coaches, the Walt Chyzowych
Memorial Fund (WCMF) has initiated a scholarship program with both US Soccer and NSCAA Coaching Schools
and Academies.
The WCMF Scholarship Program provides for a two thirds (2/3) scholarship to a limited number of
select candidates with WCMF accounting for one third (1/3) of the respective course tuition, the host
institution providing for an additional one third (1/3) and the coaching candidate the final one third
(1/3) of tuition.
Generally speaking, an average of six such scholarships to each coaching School/Academy are available
on an annual basis.
Candidates may apply by communicating with WCMF either through mail or by e-mail, detailing as much
as possible their coaching experience aspirations, coaching course attendance plans, financial need and
other factors which would make them a desirable recipient. There is no formal application to be
completed.
The following have received Walt Chyzowych Memorial Fund and US Soccer or NSCAA joint scholarships to US Soccer Coaching Schools or NSCAA Coaching Academies for 2009.
