Application Process

Each year the NSCAA Foundation awards scholarships to individuals by providing financial assistance for them to attend NSCAA Coaching Academy residential diploma courses. These scholarships are made possible through the generosity of many donors.

Scholarships are funded using unrestricted funds, general endowment funds, and numerous named endowment funds including the Walter Chyzowych Fund at the NSCAA Foundation. Scholarships are applied toward the costs of tuition, housing and meals for an NSCAA National Diploma course or an Advanced National Diploma course in 2012.

History

Walt Chyzowych served US Soccer as Director of Coaching providing leadership to the development of US Soccer Coaching Schools and as a consultant to the National Soccer Coaching Association of America (NSCAA) in the formation of its Coaching Academy programs.

As part of its continuing effort to provide assistance to aspiring coaches, the Walt Chyzowych Memorial Fund (WCMF) initiated a scholarship program in 1998 with both US Soccer and NSCAA Coaching Schools and Academies.

The WCMF Scholarship Program provided for a two thirds (2/3) scholarship to a limited number of select candidates with WCMF accounting for one third (1/3) of the respective course tuition, the host institution providing for an additional one third (1/3) and the coaching candidate the final one third (1/3) of tuition.

Generally speaking, an average of six such scholarships to each coaching School/Academy were available on an annual basis. Since the inception of the program, 107 coaches have received WCMF coaching scholarships.
